Stephen King, Full Dark, No Stars

Obwohl ich "1922" immer noch nicht wiederlesen wollte (ich weiß auch nicht genau, was mich an der Story stört, aber irgendwie mag ich sie nicht), faszinierten "Big Driver", "A good Marriage" und "Fair Extension" dafür einmal mehr. Und bestimmt nicht zum letzten Mal.

Stephen King, Nightmares and Dreamscapes

Auch hier pickte ich mir nur einige Geschichten raus und las den Rest quer - oder garnicht, wie z.b. "Sorry, Right Number", das mir einfach zu traurig ist. Dafür war das Wiederlesen von "Dolan's Cadillac", "The Night Flier", "Chattery Teeth", "Dedication", "Sneakers", "Home Delivery", "My Pretty Pony", "The Ten O'Clock People", "The House on Maple Street" und "The Doctor's Case" noch einmal mehr ein echtes Vergnügen.

Stephen King, Everything's Eventual

Ich dachte, ich hätte mittlerweile alle Kurzgeschichtensammlungen von Stephen King auf dem Paperwhite, aber als irgendwie "Luckey Quarter" wiedergelesen wollte, fand ich ihn nicht in der Bibliothek und lud ihn mir runter. Viele Stories las ich nur quer, aber außer "Luckey Quarter" fand ich auch die Titelstory, "1408", "That Feeling, You can only say it in French", "Riding the Bullet" und "The Road Virus heads North" wieder unvergleichlich gut. Und natürlich machten sie auch wieder Lust auf mehr Kurzgeschichten von King.

Stephen King, Later

Als ich den Band vorbestellte, hatte ich kaum Zeit mit der Synopsis verschwendet, weil das bei Stephen King eh überflüssig ist. Das bestätigte sich auch hier, wie King die Grundidee von 'The Sixth Sense' aufgreift und ausbaut ist einfach klasse zu lesen. Das einzige was mich störte, war dass es wieder viel zu kurz war, mehr eine Novelle wieder. Ist die Zeit der dicken Schinken bei ihm vorbei? Aber die Kürze machte die Story auch konzentrierter und vielleicht auch realistischer. Auf jeden Fall ein Genuß von vorne bis hinten. Wie immer.

Neil Gaiman, The Sandman Library VIII: Worlds' End

In der gesamten Sandman-Serie geht es um Geschichten, Stories in allen Arten und Formen und in diesem Band scheint alles zu kulminieren. Unzählige Geschichten werden ineinander verschachtelt - wie russische Puppen wie Stephen King in seinem Vorwort bemerkt - bis sie am Ende in eine Geschichte münden, die der erste Erzähler ganz am Anfang in einer Bar erzählt. Aber ist dies auch wirklich der Abschluß?
Selbst nach kanpp 20 Jahren habe ich immer noch nicht genug vom Sandman und irgendwie war diesmal dieser Band an der Reihe. Vielleicht hänge ich auch noch "The Wake" dran, den hab ich auch schon länger nicht mehr gelesen ...

These are great stories, and we're all lucky to have them. To read Now, and maybe again 'Then', later on, when we need what only a good story has the power to do: to take us away to worlds that never existed, in the company of people we wish we were ... or thank God we aren't.

Stephen King, End of Watch (Bill Hodges Trilogy Book 3)

Der letzte Band mit Bill Hodges und vielleicht der beste, definitiv der traurigste. Und immer wieder gut zu lesen.
Übrigens fiel mir einmal mehr der Name Frederica Bimmel auf. Aber natürlich ist das Buch ja auch Thomas Harris gewidmet.

One foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel, Hodges's father would have said. And the thought that comes to him is too complicated - too fraught with a terrible mixture of anger and sorrow - to be articulated. It's about how some people carelessly squander what others would sell their souls to have: a healthy, pain-free body. And why? Because they're too blind, too emotionally scarred, or too self-involved to see past the earth's dark curve to the next sunrise. Which always comes, if one continues to draw breath.

Stephen King, Finders Keepers (Bill Hodges Trilogy Book 2)

Bei diesem Band interessierte mich neben Holly - die hier ein wenig in den Hintergrund gedrängt wird - die Story von Peter Saubers Zufallsfund und wie er mit dem Geld seine Familie über Wasser hält. Morris Bellamys Teil eher weniger, obwohl es dort auch schöne Stellen gibt.

For readers, one of life's most electrifying discoveries is that they are readers - not just capable of doing it (which Morris already knew), but in love with it. Hopelessly. Head over heels. The first book that does that is never forgotten, and each page seems to bring a fresh revelation, one that burns and exalts: Yes! That's how it is! Yes! I saw that too! It's why, for years, a stranger put a rose on Edgar Allan Poe's grave every January 19th., Poe's birthday. It's also what would make Pete hate this man even if he wasn't pointing a gun at his sister's trembling, vulnerable midsection. Red Lips took the life of a great writer, and why? Because Rothstein dared to follow a character who went in a direction Red Lips didn't like? Yes, that was it. He did it out of his own core belief: that the writing was somehow more important than the writer.
