Heute jährt sich Jim Morrisons Todestag zum 44. Mal.

It was the greatest night of my life.
Although I still had not found the wife, I had my friends right there beside me. We were close together.
We tripped the wall, we scaled the graveyard, ancient shapes were all around us.
The wet dew felt fresh beside the farn.
Two made love in an ancient spot.
One chased the rabbit into the dark.
A girl got drunk and balled the dead,
and I gave empty sermons to my head.
Cemetery, cool and quiet ...

Zu dieser Zeit sang Jim Morrison schon längst nicht mehr die ursprüngliche Version von 'The End' live, sondern ersetzte den Mittelteil mit dem Killer durch völlig andere, oft improvisierte Textzeilen - hier mal mit einer klassischen Blueszeile. Und Ray Manzareks Spiel klingt schon fast wie nicht mehr von dieser Welt.

Och nö. Der erste der drei Überlebenden Doors-Mitglieder, Ray Manzarek ist nicht mehr. Ich hoffe, daß Robbie Krieger und John Densmore sich mit der Doors-Wiedervereinigung noch etwas mehr Zeit lassen :-(
Während Jim Morrison mich schon als Teenager mit seiner Stimme und seinen Texten faszinierte, verzauberte mich bei der Musik der Doors das unverwechselbare Zusammenspiel von Robbie Kriegers glasklarer Gitarre und Ray Manzareks fast surreal klingendem Keyboard immer wieder - auch heute noch, wo ich mit Jims Gedichten nicht mehr so viel anfangen kann wie früher. Und auch "Close to You" auf dem 'Absolutely Live'-Album, dem einzigen Song, wo Ray Manzarek singt, höre ich mir immer wieder gerne an - besonders Jims geniale Einführung ..
